About

A drawing of a person with a round face and large eyes, with messy, tangled lines extending from the head, resembling hair or thoughts. The lines are connecting to various small symbols and shapes, including a spiral, a triangle, a crosshatch pattern, and a swirl.

I am James, the mind behind JPFW Art.

I didn’t do art at school, however my schooling did embrace the creative, which I didn’t embrace, preferring a path more towards technology and science. After a 20 year career in IT, life took some turns and I found myself needing to create; to take my mind away from severe depression and a sense of futility.

I found by disassembling electronic items I often discovered faces, who seemed to want to say hello to the world. Perhaps my purpose to bring them to life? Assembly don’t use glue, everything I create is joined with mechanical or physical connection (solder); a great way to learn about; heat, stress, chemical reactions and the physical properties of materials.

Colour: splats, misting, vivid, vibrant with contrast. I love painting frames, hoping they become an integral part of the subject piece.

Themes in my work: love, sadness, happiness, loss, loneliness and friendship.

Components used: copper, brass, wire, PCB’s, bulbs, resistors, connectors, contacts, switches, heaters, wood, glass, valves, heaters, drills, radios, cameras, mobile phones, hard drives, you name it.

Artist influences: Klee, Kandinsky, Haring, Miro to name but a few.

I am the proud father of two beautiful daughters and the honoured husband to a wonderful wife, whose support and love are fundamental.
